Congratulations are due Dave Winer of Scripting News, the longest continually running blog on the Internet — April 1, 2007 clicked past on the weekend, marking ten years for the site. That’s right, Dave Winer was blogging on Scripting News before there were blogs. For posterity, he has archived the original page from April 1, 1997… just in case you don’t remember what the Internet looked like in 1997.
Dave’s site played an instrumental role in the development of little things like RSS and podcasting. The first blog-like site that I ran started as a newsletter and went online in 2000 and remains live, but I took a break from it to put efforts into different online projects starting in 2003. I recall following his site fairly regularly in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s… it was a mainstay then and remains so now. I’ve got a bit to go yet before I hit ten years, but it won’t be on the same blog. From that standpoint, I can certainly admire Dave’s stick-to-it-iveness!
